As October approaches, Riot Games' premier esports events are set to begin. The League of Legends World Championship will see LCK teams vying for a fifth consecutive title, while T1 and Nongshim RedForce aim for their first Valorant Champions victory.
League of Legends World Championship
Riot Games is preparing for its major global esports competitions this October, with the League of Legends (LoL) World Championship kicking off on October 16. The LCK aims to secure its fifth consecutive championship title, emphasizing its dominance in the tournament's history. The event will take place across various locations in the U.S., starting in Los Angeles and concluding in Brooklyn, New York.
Tournament Structure
The championship will feature 19 teams from six regions, competing in three stages: Play-In, Swiss, and Knockout.
- Play-In Stage: From October 16-19 in Los Angeles, four teams will compete in a double elimination format. The top team advances to the Swiss stage.
- Swiss Stage: Kicking off on October 24, this stage includes notable teams like Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1, and Dplus Kia from South Korea.
- Knockout Stage: The knockout matches will begin on November 4, culminating in the finals on November 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The LCK has won the championship for four consecutive years and looks to add its 11th title overall this year.
Fan Engagement
In conjunction with the tournament, Riot Games will launch a fan prediction event called 'God of Predictions' starting on October 10. Additionally, the official theme song 'Know My Name' will be released on October 9, along with a special Yasuo skin commemorating the event.
Valorant Champions Shanghai
Simultaneously, Valorant Champions Shanghai is witnessing a fierce competition among teams, with T1 and Nongshim RedForce representing the Pacific region. In the group stage, which took place from September 24 to October 4, teams from the Americas and Pacific regions showed strong performances, leading to all four teams from the Americas advancing to the playoffs.
T1 and Nongshim RedForce both bounced back from initial defeats to secure their playoff spots, with T1 overcoming 100 Thieves and Nongshim defeating the defending champions NRG to progress.
Playoff Matches
The playoffs will commence on October 7 in a double elimination format. T1 will face NRG, while PRX takes on Loud, and Nongshim will compete against Team Vitality on October 8. With a chance for a new championship record in Valorant, the competition remains intense as no team from the Pacific has secured a title yet.
As these two major tournaments unfold, the spotlight will be on whether Korean teams can achieve new records in both League of Legends and Valorant.
